Day #7 - Salzburg to Garmisch-Partenkirschen

As promised, the cold front moved through during the night last night - spectacular thunder!  It rained most of the night and has continued all day today.

We left the comfort of the Hotel Weisse Taube (White Dove) in the Old Town after visiting with the Familie Wollner representative, 5th generation of family running the hotel - who was working the reception!

Traveling back west, we traversed the Autobahn 8 and then took off across country rather than dealing with interstate traffic and see the countryside.  Even with the rain and fog, it is such a beautiful country.  The temperature has also plunged from low 80s to high 40s at 5:00p today

We got to our hotel - the Atlas Hotel, which is actually in the Old Town of Partenkirschen.  The room was, thankfully, ready when we arrived shortly after noon.  We got settled in -- had some lunch at a restaurant next to our hotel -- and then went in search of umbrellas.

No beer today -- wine instead!!   And Bill got the "greens" that he is missing from his diet!

You would think in a countryside that has rain 75% of the time -- that umbrellas would be easy to come by!  Oh, well, we rescued the car and drove the 10 minutes into "downtown" Garmisch - and luckily found the parking area right beside the Visitor Information!   Fortunately, a shopping plaza was right around the corner and we are now the proud owners of TWO umbrellas and three new pair of warm socks!

I must admit that I was a bit disappointed when we realized that our hotel was in Partenkirschen rather than Garmisch, which holds all of my memories from years ago.  Now, having walked the streets of Garmisch and returned to our hotel here in the old city, I am so thankful we are here!  The modernization that has overtaken Garmisch has not impacted this area!

We've decided that the comfort of our hotel is a perfect place for dinner this evening -- forecast is for rain tomorrow (Thursday) with the low temperature forecast for 38.  Friday is to be sunny and high of 49 -- a heat wave!
